Service Club Discount

Hi

We've enrolled in the Service club, received the little card and a money off voucher which conveniently expired months before the service was due.

However, 3 year (interim) service is now due plus MOT. The Fixed Price Service Cost is £149 plus £35 for the MOT.

The Service Club is supposed to get me 15% off service and repairs at the current age of the car, plus 50% off the MOT.

Have been told that the service cost is a "special deal" so Service Club discount cannot be used, but MOT will be reduced to £27.44.

If additional parts are needed over and above the normal service parts (oil, plugs etc) then the discount card can be used on those.

Am I being conned here. Fixed Price Service Menu is not a special deal, surely?

I would say that sounds pretty good for a service & the last time i got a car MOT'd it was £50 so i think thats good too.
This is in the small print! Iv copied this off the Vauxhall Service Club page:

"Offers apply to genuine Vauxhall service and repair work on your registered Vauxhall at participating Retailers only .....Not valid in conjunction with any other offer"

Link to the vauxhall page with T&C's.

http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/owners_services/service-exclusions.html

It actually states this on the Fixed Price Servicing page:

"For a limited time, if your Vauxhall is over 3 years, get an interim service for £149"Link to the Fixed Service Website Page:http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/owners_services/parts_servicing/car-servicing-mots.html#ServicePlansSeems like the Fixed Price Service is an existing offer so you cant use it with the Service Club membership discount.Only thing i can think of is that the MOT isusuallyaround £55 and your getting 50% off that. the price quoted of 27.44 seems to be the correct price with Service Club Membership. See link to MOT's below & description of discount:http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/owners_services/parts_servicing/car-servicing-mots.html#ServiceClub

Why not try booking your service with the above links i posted? it might work out cheaper? also, call around, play dealers against each other. Oh and join the Service Club as you get a discount & money off voucher for joining.
Don't vehicles have to be two years old, to qualify for the Service Club?

My car is less than two years old,and I joined the service club , and had it serviced recently, the dealer charged me less by booking through them than through the club. They told me that there was one standard charge with the service club no matter where you are in the country, but that depending on what part of the country you live in could mean that you could pay less through the dealer than with vx. They did however honour the £20 voucher from vx, bringing the cost down to £200 .the cost they told me was standard was £289 and would only qualify for a 15 o/o discount, so it worked out cheaper with them. Now beginning to wonder whether they were telling me porkies about the standard cost as the price arst06d was quoted is a lot cheaper than mine

Mines is coming due for its third annual service along with its first MOT. Looking around (not at Vauxhall) it seems like the thick end of £200 seems to be about the going rate. Having looked at the service booklet there doesn't seem to be much in the third year Interim service so think I might just do it myself, that way I'll know it's been done right and save myself a few quid because there's places advertising MOT for half price..

Vauxhall dealers price for the genuine filter is £30 - which is outrageous. I got someone who was on holiday in America to go into the local Chevrolet dealers and get them, price was $27.64 plus $2.14 sales tax for two filters. He also got me 2 Fram filters over there for about half that price. Why are we so ripped off in this country?

Tell you the truth I was thinking of using the wife's salad spinner thingy with a pair of her old tights around the outside and just recycle the oil, save the planet while I'm at it :) But I've seen lots of threads with people saying they've bought genuine Dexos oil on Ebay with a picture of the can showing the Dexos label so how can you go wrong?

Well, Dexos is a scam by GM according to several of the oil conmpanies, GM doesn't test the vendors oil to check it conforms to specification, they just charge a licencing fee and list them as approved.

Just threw that one in to see if you were awake. Lucas didn';t manage too well with their spark plugs either for Vauxhall/Bedford from memory teh J8 the J12 and the UJ12 ultra short reach plugs didn't do as well as the AC plugs
EDIT: Wasn't Lucas that made the plugs, it was Champion..
