update today on my sat nav issue/usb update stick...
Dealer phoned this morning to say my replacement map update usb stick had arrived in stock. The major difference is that where the USB stick is inside the box, there is an official sticker across it marked "activated"- this was not present on the original (as this was supplied via VX customer services to dealer). Has anyone who has ordered one from VX's navigation update webpage been asked for their VIN during the ordering process? - I suspect that this new stick has been "fingerprinted" to my vehicle and as a result, should work... It's currently in work with my missus as the dealer dropped it up to her at lunchtime while the parts guy was visiting our vehicle unit. As an apology for the delay/hassle, they have offer to do me any parts/accessories at a "good price/cost" so going for a set of roof bars (anyone know the current price of the new style roof bars without the pins for new mokkas?)

Will post pics of the upgrade process later on... (as an aside, is there any chance mods could consider a "how to section" like other vx forums have?)

update- inserted this replacement USB stick and lo & behold, it worked- scanned files, then updated. took around 70min total (scan & install). The fault with the previous one is that it was obviously not paired. sorry for late reply- missus has some bad health news Friday, which we are working through currently...

Hi Krisbutler, glad to hear that you resolved your sat nav problems. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's health problem. Hope you get it sorted soon‘

A small aside to the Mokka satnav saga... My mum and dad recently purchased a 1.6 cdti techline mokka and after testing their nav system it is evident that that vehicle has some issues- adding the postcode for a family member in Highcliffe near Christchurch give the location as New Milton and thus no ability to add/find road, and the locationis about 5miles outso the dealer has now been tasked with supplying and sorting a nav update for that vehicle. I really can't understand why on a brand new vehicle Vauxhall can't supply the first update for free and then hand over liability for mapping updates to the owner there after.. the systems are effectively not fit for purpose out of the factory..

The only in-built SatNav I have ever found to be worth the price was the VAG one fitted in Seats and Skoda. Even then the updates are outdated when new and ridiculously expensive. I will stick with my TomTom with weekly free for life updates to both roads and speed cameras/ speed limits.

I have indeed and will continue so to do.

The majority of integrated SatNavs are simply not worth the premium charged for them and if I, and others, keep banging on about this then in my utopian future some one may listen. In the meantime do feel free to ignore my posts.

I look on it as a free extra on the techline range, yes it has it's limitations, but for a clean "no wires" solution and non-nickable it works for me... I can't fathom in this day and age of high speed fibre broadband whyupdates can't be downloaded (once you add your VIN in the website) and copied to usb- that would be a HUGE benefit I think..<div abp="1111">

Welcome to the forum reknaw (an anagram of Newark surely?)

The point about no wires is well made. I have mine on a bean bag mount so no tell-tale ring on the screen.

I like maps but had I used maps last week in Belgium I would still be there. Who. in the right mind, resurfaces alternate junctions of a road with no warning signs? Without a SatNav which actually directed us at one point down a service road behind a row of factories we would still be on the N308 approaching Ieper.

No wish to be rude, but I am not interested in any TomTom SatNav, as I referred to in my original post.
My post was about the use of SatNav in general and agreeing with you about the benefits of wire free.

Hey guys! I'm new here but never forget that behind every post is a person who deserves the same respect you do, it's a public forum for all who want to post, if you don't like somebody's opinion just respect their right to express it and ignore it, but most of all just play nicely

Just to confirm, reknaw is a returning
banned former member. Don't be sucked in by his previous posts.

Hopefully he will eventually get the message.

with replies like that, i'm surprised he/she has been allowed to return! :)
