I took delivery of my brand new mokka in January and was really excited to be getting this new car. But unfortunately it hasn’t turned out to be a good experience and I wondered if anyone else has been having similar issues:
Firstly the range has been absolutely awful, the car barely managing 100 miles on a full charge, having to drive in winter with no heating to try and eke out the miles wasn’t fun.
There have been numerous software issues, and despite updates the car play system still doesn’t work properly.
The drivers seat needs welding as it keeps dropping.
And to top it all the home charger cable got stuck last week and I couldn’t release it, the RAC had to be called out to take the car apart to release it.
I could go on, but I won’t. Anyone else having similar problems?

Releasing the cable if it doesn't handshake correctly with the EVSE can be frustrating but usually can be achieved without someone getting spanners out
Locking and unlocking the car is usually enough.
Once I had to cut power to the EVSE before it would release but the car had gone completely mad on that occasion.
Range if driven properly with heating on and everything else will be reduced in winter.
Depending on the type of journey and how you're driving it might be reduced by a greater margin.
It will suffer more on shorter journeys as a greater percentage is used for conditioning the cabin when taken in relation to overall consumption.
If you drive on your own then you'll find using the heated steering wheel for a few minutes and the heated seat is much less strain on consumption although you can set the binnacle display to show how much energy goes into heating or cooling which is quite useful.
The seats in mine are very solid and comfortable. I set the drivers seat to be quite a way back then raise it up which also brings it forward a little then adjust the back.
If you find the height is decreasing under your weight or even under its own weight then it needs to be looked at. It supports my 14 stone without issue.

Software issues can arise if the 12v battery is faulty and even if the car is a bit dirty as sensors are affected. Keeping the updates loaded is an unfortunate consequence of having a modern vehicle.

What mode do you drive it in D or B and do you use Sports rather than Eco?

I've had my mokka e since May. Began good soon became strange with various malfunctions. Radio wouldn't come on or freeze. Reverse camera wouldn't go on. Now I've had the car speed up and slow down on motorway for no reason. Had beeps from people as iam sure the brake lights don't go on when it slows. Rac had to reset the engine. 177 miles charge did a 94 mile journey and have 9 miles left. Fan system stopped working aswell had to use the steering wheel and xahir to keep myself warm. No I just don't want it anymore. Noone can tell me this is normal. Feel these cars are mis sold to us because of all the false hype. I only got electric to help the planet but will go back to petrol hybrid. I live in West South Wales and most of my family are in the Midlands haven't been able to visit cause of the worry and huge expenditure of charging it. Council will not allow me an electric point at my property so I've been royally stumped. Can only use the chargers. Can't afford to run it now.

 

No, no problems at all. Sept21 it's just performed brilliantly since the word go. Longest journey was 170miles (M25 A12 etc) and I got home with iirc 9% left. Word of advice I always use Eco and keep the inside temp pretty much within a few degrees of the outside temp. Drive smoothly and use anticipation. Keep your speed reasonable and avoid harsh acceleration. I keep up with the flow of traffic. Its some long ingrained habits from stretching fuel in petrol cars. My top tip. Ignore the range Guess o Meter. You've got a battery pct gauge if your on track you'll be doing 20 Mile's per ten pct battery. If your doing 17 to 18 that's normal consumption, but with a little effort you can get it nearer to 20.

 

I took delivery of mine last October and have covered almost 24k miles in it since then. Apart from a BT disconnection issue from my phone it's been pretty much faultless.

It's been a learning curve for me adapting to EV driving but good info above on efficient driving techniques. I am currently sitting at 4.1 miles per kWh over the last 2k miles which to the best of my knowledge should allow around 185 miles from the usable 45 kW of the 50kW battery. I'm driving around 90 miles a day and am now avoiding using the motorway and sticking to A and B roads to commute to my rural workplace although I appreciate this isn't an option for everyone.

I've found Eco mode to be pointless and with conservative use of aircon and maximising regen opportunities in both normal drive mode and B mode when slowing for junctions etc you the car can deliver great efficiency.

Yes indeed I too am having numerous problems from under 100mileson a charge & I amsatin vauxhall at moment asi keep getting dash lights come on like seatbelt door open ect when I have sealtbelt onbut the best of all is headlights & while explaining to service at vauxhall I was told their temperamental 'what' my headlights are temperamental so when I says my lights are on or what 'tempremental' & headlights don't reallygo together,o im starting to enjoy this car

 

New here and just posted similar question... we have a new mokka e and the coverage we are getting isn't good at all....... I've used 26% battery for a 24 mile journey... its a motability car(I thank my lucky stars I haven't bought it) so can't moan too much but we had a kia niro hybrid before this and it did 72.1 mpg from buxton to bognor Regis and used less than a ¼ of a tank of fuel... the range on the mokka seems pretty useless and we have the same journey to make later in the year. Looking at this I'll be charging it again in derby before I can get to a motorway. Lovely car with brilliant tech but not impressed one bit with the miles vs charge I'm getting

Our electric car (not Vauxhall) during the minus temperatures a few weeks ago with heater on high was returning half the mileage it will do in summer, its not just a Vauxhall thing.

 

Can I add that the a/c. I keep the cabin temp only three to four degrees lower than ambient in summer and heating in winter to the minimum necessary.
In this way with the usual hypermiling style of driving it is indeed possible to get to 4.4m per kwh. Even better sometimes, but 4.4 times 45kwh usable battery gives 198miles. Usually I have no need to stretch it so average 3.7 or so, that's still 167 miIes.
Oddly I find when I'm going to and from work I get less range than when pootling about on holiday. Perhaps it's being more relaxed than helps?

 

Hi my 5 month old Mokka e is currently at the dealership and has been for almost 3 weeks now. Broke down twice because of a battery fault that they are being recalled for. Trying to book it in for repair was a nightmare cancelled twice. Also the battery range is very poor. I have totally lost confidence in this car and am nervous about getting it back.

 

Have you any follow up? Are you still nervous? I've owned mine since Sep 21 and it's been completely reliable. I managed 4.9 miles per kw last week. That's crazy good.....45kwh times 4.9 m/kw is 220 miles. Just an awesome car.

I own a mokka now for 7 months drove abouth 12.000 miles op till now .
I never had anny problems and my range in winter was abouth 150/170 miles using heating / heatet seats and steering weel( in normal drive mode) . Ofcorse the range idepends .a lot do wath speed your driving it and wel your driving style wen you like sportiv driving or drive a lot of freeway it wil ofcorse bring the range down . I did didnt have anny problems with carplay up till now . It seems you a bit unlucky and i woud have your garage do a Battery check . Cos even wen i drive freeway or sportif i have more as just barly 100 miles i drove in winter only on the freeway and still managed abouth 140 miles

Once with just 381 miles on the clock and again at 4882
Vauxhall have no idea why
It’s displays Electric traction system fault
Been recovered twice now
Happens a third time and it’s going back
Off the court we go
I understand cars breakdown but to not fix it and tell me “Let’s us know if it happens again”

i know your post is slightly dated but i felt i needed to chuck my two pennyworth in. Like you our sri premium barely gets 100 on a full charge, its been back several times with software crap etc, this car left me stranded on the M42 whilst attempting to drive to a service station to charge up 3 miles out from the services the battery level indicated 25% low but more than enough to get me to Hopwood services, long story short i was leaving the motorway on the slip road when all the bells whistles etc rang out and the car just died on me while i was still in driving lane position, didnt even get chance to pull over, i rang the breakdown, i told them it was a e/v and cannot be pushed at all, have you ever tried? the weight of these things is hernia inducing, anyway the patrol man came and said cant load it on a normal triler because the wheels wont move hey ho, so he called for a flatbed trailer," i told you it was an e/v ffs" anyway in the meantime mr jolly "not" highway agency patrol came along , coned off the area, i was 100 meteres away from the services ffs, mr highway agency said because it is blocking a live lane unless aa come in 25 minutes with a flatbed i will have to call out one of our recovery drivers, aa surrendered which left me with a £270 bill for recovery and the car taken to the compound because i did not have the dosh to pay at the time, anyway paid the bill got it recovered by aa this time and taken to a main dealer in reditch to check the car out, again it was software failure so managed to claim back the money but the experience has left me with no confidence whatsoever in this car. its on lease as soon as the lease finishes im back to diesel asap

The reason the wheels lock up is it engages the parking pawl. Look at the handbrake line under the bonnet. Two Allen bolts remove plastic cover then using a 7mm socket simply unscrew the pawl. Get the Vauxhall dealer to point the location out to you. Then you'll never be stuck again. AA man ought to know this. Have the tools in the glove box just in case. Cost about 4 quid.

 

I am having "range" issues with my Mokka-e that I took possession of in late June 2023. Initially the range was acceptable when I was getting around 185 miles on a full charge but nowadays I am only getting between 120-125 miles. I am so fixated on the percentage and range when I drive that I am failing to give the road ahead my full attention. With the poor winter range and not paying the right amount of attention I realised that I had to something. I contacted my local Vauxhall garage who supplied my car to investigate the trade-in value of my Mokka-e against a new petrol Mokka but I decided not to go down that route due to a pathetic trade-in valuation and the fact that it was going to take 9-12 months to get a new petrol Mokka. I visited several other manufacturer's franchises in order to get a trade-in valuation, all of which offered a much higher valuation than Vauxhall but the clear winner in that regard was Ford.

Before I ordered my electric Mokka, I was torn between the Mokka and the Ford Puma as I liked both, so it was a no brainer for me to place an order for a Ford Puma Vignale 153PS 1.0L Ecoboost in Frozen White. Unbelievably the sales person confirmed that a vehicle matching the colour and trim level, was on a ship heading for the UK and arriving on 09/01/24. The salesperson booked that car for me and I was told that I should expect delivery mid to late January.

 

Today I went into work. It was pretty chilly being 4C this morning. Looked at the stats page 4.1 m/kw which is 184.5 range and whilst I had the cruise set to 65 I did hit that plus 20 more at one instant getting past some lorries.
Mine is an early version with the 50kwh pack. So two years plus old.
It's very sad that sone later cars presumably with the improved battery pack are having issues. So much so that some are bailing.

Mines not perfect the TPMS is driving me nuts. Going in soon for them to investigate. New tyre and frequent pressure checks, it just won't hold a system reset. Multiple times. Maddening but that's all there is.

 

I’ve had my Mokka e for nearly two years now. I haven’t been happy with it. Had a number of battery issues in the first few months, the build quality is shocking, closing the boot causes damage to the paintwork and Vauxhall won’t fix the issue. One of the electric windows failed. I now occasionally have a message that the car is putting the emergency economy mode on, even when there is a good charge showing. The last point is that twice I have accidentally locked myself out of the car, by putting my belongings in the boot. Within seconds of realising I have gone to reopen the boot and it has locked itself and fails to recognise the key is in the vehicle! Surely with keyless this should not be possible!

 

2 weeks agoI just bought a second hand Vauxhall mokka e ( 8k miles on a clock). And I manage do 1k miles, range is ok still learning to drive EV, but yesterday went shopping and used automatic parking just to show my wife how it works and while a car was parking itself it went on emergency brake for no reasons.. so I turned it off and tried to drive it instantly heard the noise coming from left side wheel. Took it to the local garage today ( as waiting for Vauxhall service in the next 3 weeks for the first service) just to check if it’s safe to drive and I been told that front differential broken…. Now spoke with Vauxhall dealer and they booked car for inspection.. 9 k miles just a year old vehicle with broken differential?

 

UPDATE: after 3 days of investigation Toomey Basildon said : car is in perfect condition, and that noise what I’m hearing it a normal sound for an electric car…

OK go drive another Mokka-e and see if it makes that noise. Mine is in Billericay can you pop over this afternoon about 4pm? If it makes the same noise they're right, otherwise not!

Definitely heard a grinding sound, not loud but it's there. Like a partially binding brake or something. No expert but it's definitely not as quiet as it ought to be. Litronicas is completely correct imo.

Oh and the later Mokka-e is notably more rapid than mine.😃

 

Yeah that’s a completely different experience with your car compared to mine🫣🫣 yours was so quiet that you even can enjoy the drive.. with my one it’s annoying- that grinding/ regenerative noise is too loud! And yes newer model is a bit more responsive.
Thanks again Ethanedwards, you really helped me to understand that’s not normal. So now I’ll let Vauxhall know about that and it’s definitely not a perfectly normal sound!

 

Aaah well I like to do a bit of Hypermiling with it. Best ever 5.4 but I didn't take a snap. Attached is a 4.9m/ kw I rarely see below 4, unless I've been ahem 'naughty' then 3.8 or thereabouts.

I'm a bit old and tend to drive slow. 🤗

 

Wow that’s really good , I mean the best for me was 3,9m/kWh, normally 3.4/kWh. And most of my drive is in eco mode… 🫣🫣

Yes I agree (about that pad dust )that's a possibility.
Hypermiling..yes it's not for everyone. I work in Colchester and so spend a lot of time on the A12. Max 65mph and I do anticipation, so keep rolling.... cut down on start/ stop etc In a word..smooth. Tyres a couple of pounds on the high side etc.

Mornings I'm on the road early, return home outside peak hours. Pretty dull stuff really.

Vauxhall reckon on the old 50kwh version you need to get 4.4 to meet the 201 range. So 3.4 to 3.8 is on the low side but not far off what I used to get three years ago. Stick with it, and you'll find what works for you.

 

I am also having range issues brand new vehicle range should be 220 miles and I struggle to get 100 out of that before needing to charge.

 

What's your consumption x miles per kwh please.

Secondly how do you drive it? Flat out everywhere?

Do you use the B button?

Tyres at the right pressure?

Nothing else obvious, you ride the brake all the time or you have a roof rack?

To suggest something, need far more information.

 

Hi all, got a really odd problem with my 2021 Mokka E. Basically, when I start the car, then move it say 5 feet and turn it off again (any journey will trigger it). As I walk away from the car, there is am odd almost beeping noise coming from the central lower portion of the front bumper?? I've narrowed it down to a sensor behind the center plate of the lower part of the bumper, the active grill, or a fan sticking, but don't seem to be able to identify the exact cause. The car was in the garage for a ball joint replacement last Friday who stated they checked the car for any codes and didn't see anything flag up. Any ideas on how I can pinpoint the problem / has anyone had it before? Thanks
