Hi all. New to this, so don't really know what to write.
Issue started with a slight rattle. Kept trying to contact dealership (after they'd reopened) to ask if I could bring the vehicle in to be checked. Continually no answer on any of Service, Sales or Parts lines.
A week or so later, within 10 minutes of setting off on a 12.5 mile journey, I had a message flash up saying 'Engine overheated - idle engine'. I immediately stopped the car and started trying to call my dealership to see if I should continue driving. Again no answer.
I thus finished my journey home and the engine stayed at it's normal temperature with no further issue. However, when I arrived home, I went online to look for an alternative phone no. and a Live Chat option immediately popped up. After becoming quite frustrated with the answers I was receiving, I finally managed to elicit the promise of a phone call.
For the following week, my journeys were of no more than a mile, but when I next drove to work (having still had no phone call and nothing on the car actually saying "don't drive me"), the problem started happening frequently, and after the first few occasions of stopping the car, I then started to see additional messages, such as 'Engine power reduced', 'Change oil soon' and 'Service due'. I nursed the car to my local dealership, taking two and a half hours to do the 12 or so miles, only to then be told that it was obviously a big issue and would be costly to fix. Later that day they told me that the water pump had gone, causing the head gasket to also go.
The following day, I was told that another Mokka was on the ramp with the same issue and that the bill so far was over ÂŁ3,000. I had another garage also check out my car and was then told that it needed a new engine and a new turbo, would cost well over ÂŁ6,000 to fix and would never run right, forever having issues thereafter, and was basically a write-off. Obviously this was very distressing and is causing me expense that I can ill afford as a teacher.
I have since been told that this is a very common issue for Mokkas and that it is a known issue, so I am trying to get some compensation from Vauxhall, as surely they should have been doing a recall, but I am trying to establish how frequent an issue it is and also to warn people that, as soon as you hear a rattle, GET IT CHECKED OUT.
Apparently the bearings in the water pump are of good quality, but the housing they are in expands, thereby allowing the bearings to move as they shouldn't, and hence causing all the knock-on problems!
Look forward to hearing from you.
