I took my 2017 1.4 Mokka in for coolant leak in Jan 2023 as the engine was overheating. They told me it was a crack in the coolant tank. Cost a few hundred pounds to repair. In March 2023 continued coolant leak and further engine overheating, and was told it was the water pump. Nearly ÂŁ1000 to repair. Continued coolant leak and have now been told it is the head gasket and another ÂŁ1000 to repair. All at a Vauxhall dealership. Also having trouble with coils and a relay.
Do you have to take it to Vauxhall? I had coolant loss which turned out to be a cracked header tank and was replaced by Halfords for ÂŁ100 using Vauxhall parts. You might consider getting an independent diagnostic as Vauxhall's services are hellish expensive. Good luck

My car ended up needing a new engine. All the issues lead to complete engine failure which they spotted when they tried to replace the head gasket. I got rid of the car.

Hi, I'm new to these posts but have been told today by RAC that head gasket has gone on my Vauxhall mokka , had it four years, done 48500 miles, had it serviced every year after mot, started in august after service with a code 89 and yellow balloon saying (service), took it back, they said there was nothing wrong with it, been driving it, started losing power recently and coolant dripping from tank, looking at a cost of head gasket or new engine, why was this not picked up? I've read what people have put on the forum and Vauxhall have a lot of explaining to do?

Pretty much the way my problems escalated. Tried to get Vauxhall to diagnose the power loss when driving at the same time they were fixing the coolant leak, but they couldn't replicate it. It was the head gasket all along. And so damaged when they finally had it in for repair that the engine needed replacing.

Seems I'm JOINING the list of people with mokka overheating with leak, mine started last Friday on way home in middle of rush hour in slow traffic, no warning, nothing, i see the temp gauge maxed out then i get over heating etc, i got off motorway to slower road and drove slow for about 15 mins and parked up . popped the bonnet and expansion tank empty but no water coming out, so let it cool off for few hours, and filled up with coolant and water and turned on and everything normal. i took for short spin too check and back and expansion tank empty but this time water coming out underneath on left where water pump is .mechanic said it water pump without looking, vauxhall opel are like that specially mokkas and astras.so new water pump ordered with thermostat . be fitting this week and hoping that it, in my my 44 years of driving ,this is first time i had to replace water pump , hoping this is it .i see people here and on facebook, other problems come after. hoping to avoid . my wife is telling i should never have bought a petrol mokka and got a diesel version, owell

When you refill the cooling system it is recommended to allow air to bleed from the system as it fills, then tighten the bleed valve as coolant comes out, especially on B14NET engines.

A good 'how to' here.............(click)
Thanks for info. Problem is it's leaking out the water pump .so getting the water pump and thermostat changed in next few days when my mechanic gets chance to change. What I found straight is it just happened all of sudden.i checked expansion tank 2 weeks ago and was good. Sometimes get a warning as as little leak under vehicle or loosing water in tank but nothing. Just hoping this is it with water pump and thermostat. I know in few days once mechanic strips it down to change pump if that's it. Then keep a eye on it . It's service before time and everything good.

If you search the forums here there are a number reports of 1.4 petrol engines - especially the B14NET, having the water pump replaced, the thermostat and sometimes the head gasket, and also catastrophic engine damage due to overheating.

In the video linked above the thermostat seems to have partially disintegrated, and something - possibly the wax plug, then blocking the hose to the radiator and causing the system pressure to increase as it overheats. This might give rise to multiple hose/joint failures, pressure cap and overflow tank problems and erratic temperature gauge behaviour as described in various posts.

to be very honest, I'm very disappointed in opel/vauxhall with this engine, known issues and no resolve. daughter has astra with older 1.4 petrol engine and it had over heating issues too so had to get rid of it. once I have have payments paid off on mokka ,If i didn't have finance on it now ,I be getting rid of it now . been driving long time and never had over heating issues like i had with this mokka 1.4 petrol. the water pump and thermostat will be done this week. I change the expansion tank as precaution and nurse it till it's paid off . I had the ecu remapped and I'm going to put it back to default ecu setup just encase .I had a Nissan juke 1.2 petrol before the mokka and as bad as juke was, its better than this 1.4 petrol mokka as juke gave me zero problems. think it's time to go back to Japanese vehicle.

Here's some unwanted advice, this is a discussion forum, when you post people will answer, the answers may or may not be what you want to hear. If that is not acceptable you are in the wrong place! As for your question, you are the first on the forum to have this issue, and no it is definitely not a common problem, possibly due to others making sounder decisions at the outset.
I have a Mokka 1.4turbo and a mechanic is changing the water pump as I write. He has informed me that the pump has been off before. If it’s been changed before, I find that concerning as the car has only done 40k miles

It certainly will, provided that members have something to contribute to it.

Hi all. just had the same thing happened to me today om my mrs 2019 Mokka. My mechanic says that the waterpump is leaking and i need a new one - ÂŁ450 later, although this seems cheaper than some quotes ive read about. incidentally Vauxhall also replaced the coolent tank about 18 months ago as it had a crack in it - again another common problem.
