I would be very interested to know how many people think that a car should operate correctly up to the 20,000 mile service schedule without an intermediate oil change?<div style="line-height: 16.7999992370605px; : rgb251, 251, 253;">

<div style="line-height: 16.7999992370605px; : rgb251, 251, 253;">I personally feel that there is a design flaw that means the sump is contaminated by diesel and shortens the life of the oil.
<div style="line-height: 16.7999992370605px; : rgb251, 251, 253;">I've seen horror stories on various blogs where people are changing the oil at 2-3k miles and the service centre tells them this is correct.
<div style="line-height: 16.7999992370605px; : rgb251, 251, 253;">People consider service intervals when purchasing cars and if I had know that the oil need to be changed so frequently I would have considered another manufacturer.

The Seat diesel I had, was serviced every 10,000 miles, but they are now 20,000 mile intervals as well. 12,000 seems a reasonable service mileage. It always seemed to have been that as far as I can remember Edited by: Fredave

HiPhilip6380and welcome to the Forum.
Head and wall springs to mind, but I wish you well in your quest.
I agree with Bandit, that an oil change at 10-12000 miles is quiet realistic and If our "Red" achieves that we will be quiet satisfied. ("Red" runs on petrol)

My book says every 20K or 12 months. That is what I'll be doing. Sod the oil life indicator. I have twice reset mine, shortly after I bought it because it had obviously not been resetat PDI, and secondly, shortly after first service when it was down at about 80% after a couple of weeks. Now sitting at 45% with four months to go before second service.

So why doesn't Vauxhall say 10 or 12k service instead of lying through their teeth regarding oil changes? The Mokka is my wife's car and I run an Audi A4 company car that runs to 20k miles without a service I must be asking too much from Vauxhall.
It pee's me off that we have had this car 4 months and now we are supposed to suck it up and accept what the garage says and pay for an oil change.

It's the same as the MPG given in the brochure that your meant to get. It never happens. I would push to have the oil tested, or a free oil change

No design flaw , subterfuge , flim flamming or plain fraud . The 20k miles is just a reference point for driving in ideal conditions regarding oil life . The comparison to MPG is reasonable . We have been getting to around 14k miles , and then decide to have the car serviced at that point . If it was more like 10k miles in 6 or 7 months , then I would be inclined to have an additional oil change .

But why would you pay for an extra oil change if it is not due until 20,000 miles??No one seems to know when the oil needs changing and from looking at forums the period that the warning light comes on at is anywhere between 4 and 10k.
I think personally there is a design flaw in the engine and Vauxhall seem to be aware of it.

Mine is at 10% after nearly 10 months and 14,000 miles

You will just about make it across the line, with a following wind of course.

After speaking with the service manager... How does your wife drive the car? How should she drive the car? He said don't purchase this diesel unless you are doing 20k miles per year all motorway as stop start driving reduces the life of the filter....You will never get 20k miles between services without an oil change..On a good note as a gesture of good will they will do the oil and filter change foc :)

Just reading about someone who's buying a 2 year old mokka with 50000 on the clock and it's had 4 oil changes, I have looked a few times at the oil live and it does seem to degenerate, mine has done just over 6000 miles from new, any suggestions when I should be thinking about changing the oil ?

Post merged with a similar thread which is one of many.

I'm averaging 12,000ish miles a year. It's due its second service mid November, and the oil life is showing 11%. So for me, the oil gets changed at its service. I know from some of the posts, that other members of the forum prefer to change the oil sooner, others have done it sooner because of the oil life indicator has shown that it should be done.

Hi Folks,I have had my Mokka for about 6 weeks now and, having read several things regarding early oil changes, I have been keeping an eye on the oil life indicator. Yesterday it was reading 88%, which seems about right based on the time so should take it to the full 12 months. Today I quickly switched to check again and found it was now reading 99%, yet I did nothing knowingly to reset it, I don't even know if it's possible to reset it yourself. Anyone got any ideas as to why the oil life has suddenly gone up?
By the way, I know it's only been 6 weeks but so far I am very pleased with my Mokka. Wasn't too sure how I would like it having come from a Volvo but so far I am more than happy with it.
