Ok so a 1.6 petrol so the F17W 5 speed box (a box that has been around since the days of the Cavalier and is generally very very reliable).
General questions:

1) Does it howl in all gears?
2) Does the noise change if you vary the throttle at constant speed e.g. throttle off and slowing, very light throttle, full throttle.
3) Any sign of gearbox oil leaks?
4) What happens if you pop it into neutral whilst moving e.g get the noise happening and then slip it out of gear without pressing the clutch?
5) Under warranty?

Lookers (spit), might be wortha call to Dickens in Mold

 

1.yes all gears
2.yes noise changes with increase of speed, faster if that makes sense like if you are in reverse
3.no leaks
4. Not tryed
5. Under warrenty 6 months old 3000 on clock

 

So no quibbles then, it must be fixed, call Vx and get them on the case or try a competent dealer.

 

Thank you vx involved now!! Looker have tryed to palm us off by saying it's a 'characteristic' of the mokka! Told us to come down to test drive one to prove it makes a noise!!

I know the dealership in question and they used to be far more competent than they are now, as said, a short drive up to Mold may well be worth while!
