Vauxhall has announced its new 1.6-litre MDE diesel engine, which promises more refinement and a 10 per cent improvement in fuel consumption over the current 1.7-litre diesel.
The new 1.6 MDE diesel complies with the latest Euro 6 emissions standards, and will be available in various power outputs. It replaces the 1.7-litre CDTi unit, as well as some of Vauxhall's lower powered 2.0-litre diesel engines, and will debut in the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer later this year.
In the Zafira Tourer, it will produce 134bhp and 320Nm, while returning fuel economy of around 68mpg ""“ a 10 per cent improvement over the current 2.0-litre unit.
What's more, Vauxhall promises that as well as improvements in power and efficiency, the engine will be class leading in terms of low noise, vibration and harshness levels.
