My engine management light saga rumbles on....today I took it to a main dealer thinking that they would definitely get to the bottom of it. So....fault code PO401. They tell me I will need replacement EGR cooler, and possible decode or replacement of manifold. To go with the brand new EGR valve fitted 2 weeks ago. The quote for this is absolutely eye watering. They did say I might like to have a chat with Sales and see about part exchange? Car still driving perfectly, fuel consumption great. Really at my wits’ end now??

So, they told you last time when you spent £268, it would fix it and could not be anything else, I think they meant decoke the manifold, certainly no point in replacing it, but I would be putting pressure on them to stand by their words when they took your money last time!

Every time I get told this will fix it. Today I am being told that they can replace the cooler and decoke the manifold....and this will fix it. It’s going to cost me £2000 to find out 😂

Unless it's in writing I cannot see them giving up £2000, maybe obtain a goodwill gesture

I agree, but it's so annoying how often we see repairs carried out that fail to fix the problem, and the only option offered is to throw more money at it, garages should be taking more responsibility for their own diagnostic errors, perhaps it's about time we all started demanding a written quote for the cost of of repairing the specified problem.

Having read the original thread it appears the repair was done by "a garage who specialise in specific brands including mine" who did a diagnostic. Snoodle phoned them to be told "I would need replacement valve. I asked what would happen if this did not fix the fault. They assured me “it cannot be anything else. This will definitely sort it.” They ordered Vauxhall part and gasket and it was replaced on Thursday (£268).
Therefore, the main dealership had no part in the repair and is only providing a quote to rectify the problem.
An update as to the response from the repair garage would be appreciated.

Hadn't noticed it was different garages, as above I'd be interested to know what the original repairer had to say.
